Les Miserables Inspired

Good day my readers! After seeing the box office hit, and broadway legend Les Miserables this past weekend, I decided to assemble an outfit one would wear in the early 1800's, essentially inspired by the movie itself. Paco Delgado stunned the world as his costume designs graced the silver screen, capturing the very essence of french culture and the revolution. Common styles included tattered and ripped pieces accompanied by fitted vests or coats. The film/novel/musical focuses on the poverty of the 19th century following the lives of many characters and their struggles.

"Tomorrow we'll discover what our God in Heaven has in store."

I was shocked at how unchallenging it was to style my outfit. When my photographer friend and I get together often we have a hard time finding the right pieces to convey our inspiration/concept. I ultimately put to use my tiger of sweden trousers, paired with a plain white shirt and royal blue vest that was collecting dust in my closet. It still wasn't enough so I decided to rip a burgundy sweater (that no longer fit me) and rap the piece around my neck as an ascot/scarf if you will. Leather boots, and backpack topped off the ensemble and took it to the level we craved. Viola! A Marius counterpart..

“If you wish to understand what Revolution is, call it Progress; and if you wish to understand what Progress is, call it Tomorrow.”

As for the location, We ended up shooting at the Dowtown Riverside Museum. We found the architecture to be similar in regards to muted tones, wrought iron detailing and vast cement pillars. The oxblood and royal blue bled against the pale backdrop, very much similar to the films character-setting composition.

“Let us sacrifice one day to gain perhaps a whole life.”

If you haven't seen the Film yet, I suggest you do BUT I forewarn you, it is 3 hours long...Dragging in some scenes, other moments such as Anne Hathaways "I dreamed a dream" make the journey worth it. A possible Academy Award nom headed her way?

  10. The colours really complement one another. The blue and maroon really pop.

I watched Les Miz this weekend and cried during so many scenes, particularly Marius' "Empty Chairs" number and the movie's final scene. I think Hathaway will definitely get an Oscar nom, but I hope that Hugh Jackman gets a nom as well. He was so sincere as Valjean.

  12. That scarf are totally awesome and its really looks like the 18th. To rip the old sweater and make it as a scarf, i think that is brilliant because i thought that you bought it somewhere and i want it too! This look inspired by Les Miserable, which i did not watch it yet, but it also kinda look like Owen Wilson in Shanghai Noon. With that hair and face, complement with a great outfit, definitely a great look.
